From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to head to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.
